Abstract

This study aims to examine the extent to which Resource Based View holds properties of a theoretical system, taking into account the criteria of a good theory, thus to assess the current scientific status and future position of the resource based view in the field of strategy. Some of the pioneers in the area considers resource based view turned into a theory, and have reached maturity as a theoretical system by 2010s. However, that claim is not associated with the criteria of a good theory. In this study, the claim of theoretical maturity is evaluated in the light of criteria developed by Wacker (2008) in order to make a substantive contribution regarding the debate. Given the set of criteria borrowed from the work of Wacker, the study arrives at the conclusion that the Resource Based View is far from having reached a status of mature theory. However, it helps organizing strategy related studies and researches in terms of leading to scientific progress in the field.
