Abstract

In our globalizing world businesses are now facing a more and more intense competitive environment as a result of the technological development and rapid change process. Selection and successful implementation of the most suitable strategy for the structures of businesses, internal and external environmental conditions have become much more important in order to achieve competitive advantage. In businesses, many different strategic management tools and methods can be used in strategic management process applications. However, these tools and methods must be as original and appropriate to the business structure as possible. In this study, it is aimed to evaluate the importance of tools, techniques and approaches that are considered as strategic management tools in the literature.It is highly important what kind of strategy a business should follow in order to gain superiority over its competitors. In the strategic management process, the selection of the most appropriate strategic management tool among alternative strategies is seen as a factor of strategic success. Our aim is to clarify the discussions about some strategic management tools in the literature. In our research, some of the strategic management tools, techniques, and approaches applied in the businesses are examined. Examined tools, techniques and approaches are; brainstorming technique, balanced scorecard technique, fishbone diagram analysis, process renewal or change engineering, outsourcing, strategic comparison, organizational learning, strategic total quality management, FÜTZ business analysis, portfolio analysis technique.
