Bibliometric Analysis Of Strategic Management Theses in the Field of Public Administration: Case Of National Thesis Center

Abstract

In the field of public administration, the issue of strategic management is an issue that keeps its up-to-date and importance. In this context, strategic management is an issue that finds a practical basis in public administration. In public administration, the academic and theoretical status of strategic management is tried to be revealed as a result of this study. In this direction, the postgraduate theses on strategic management in public administration were examined using the bibliometric analysis method. As a result of the analyzes, starting from 1999, a total of 41 graduate theses were examined and 8 of them consist of the doctoral thesis and 33 of them master thesis. In terms of access permission; while 36 graduate theses have access permission, 5 of them do not. Considering the titles of the thesis advisors; Professors provided consultancy for 20 graduate theses, Associate Professors for 14 postgraduate theses, and Doctor Faculty Members for 7 graduate theses. The universities with the most thesis written are Marmara University and Selçuk University with 4 theses each. In terms of the number of pages, master's theses are written in the range of 100-199 pages at most, and doctoral theses in the range of 200-299 pages. When the theses are examined in terms of research methods; while 26 of them are qualitative, 9 of them are quantitative, 1 of them are mixed methods, the method of 5 theses is inaccessible. In terms of keywords used in theses, the most used keywords are as follows: strategic management, strategy, strategic planning, public administration, and strategic plan. As a result, it was concluded that the subject of strategic management in the field of public administration did not receive the necessary attention in theory as well as in practice, in the specific sample examined.
